Chandrapur barbaric Incident: Next hearing on Oct 20, local protesters under threat

Agartala, Oct 16 (TIWN): Resentment is brewing among the residents of Tata Kalibari area of Chandrapur, outskirts of the capital city- Agartala as the 17 FIR named persons are threatening the protesters in the broad-daylight. The locals are in panic after getting threat from the accused persons.

The Tripura Governor had recently asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the security to the witnesses so that they can provide their statements before the court without any fear. But the locals adjacent to the victim’s house alleged that some of the FIR named persons under the shadow of Melarmath and other ruling front leaders allegedly threatened the witnesses and protesters to take looks after the hearing on October 20. The next hearing for the Chandrapur humiliation incident is scheduled to be held on October 20.

Earlier, police arrested merely a single accused person- Partha Majumder in connection with the brutal incident on October 14. He was sent to 2-day police remand by the CJM. The arrested person is a government employee. Police would produce Partha before the court today.

According to the police sources, Partha did not confess about his involvement in the humilitation incident in the two-day remand. He informed to police about the actual faces and details behind this incident during the 2-day long police remand. But now the question is that, whether police will arrest the actual criminals or not?

Added to it, a notice was issued from the office of Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM)- Manik Lal Das to all persons accused of humiliating Soma to meet SDM today.

On the other hand, the Court has directed rest 17 FIR named persons to appear before the court on October 20. Though the police later added some non-bailable sections into this case, the court is likely to decide that whether the previous bail orders will be cancelled or not after the next hearing on the same day.

It is to be mentioned here, on the eve of Laxmi puja, Soma Majumder (Debnath) was barbarically tortured by allegedly the cadres of ruling front at Tata Kalibari area of Chandrapur under East Agartala police station. On the same evening, the victim had logged an FIR against 18 persons in this regard at East Agartala police station.

According the sources inside court, the CJM has recorded the statement of the victim on October 13. While giving her statement, Soma explained the incident took place on the eve of Laxmi puja. The police have submitted the Case Diary (CD) before the CJM.

There have been allegations, that police are not giving importance to the case right from the beginning. However, police had to retreat after uproar by political parties mainly Congress and Mahila Congress.
