Financial aid to the family members of Tripura's killed journalists

AGARTALA, April 12 (TIWN): With the initiative of Agartala Press Club and VIMS hospital, today Tripura's two killed journalists' families have been helped financially.

Tripura  Govt has announced that both Santanu Bhaumik and Sudip Datta Bhaumik's murder cases will be handed over to CBI. Also the Advocate General has told High Court the same. 

Both the family members of Santanu Bhaumik and Sudip Datta Bhaumik remained present at the Press Club. 

Addressing media, Press Club Convener Pranab Sarkar said, "We have not forgotten Santanu and Sudip, neither we will. Many may think that we have forgotten them, but to tell everyone that we can't forget them this little progarmme has been organized for them".

Santanu was killed on Sept 20, 2017. The murder of the young journalist Santanu Bhaumik took place before 7 months in a brutal attack during political clash. The young journalist was associated with various electronic media who has been killed while covering IPFT and CPI-M clash at Mandai on that day.  The barbaric murder had taken place when after getting informed about an ongoing tension on that hilly zone, Santanu rushed to Mandai ADC area to cover the incident. But, while covering the event suddenly an attack was held upon him with sharp weapons (Da) and continuously the attackers were injuring him. Santanu was 28 years old, born on 12 January, 1989, had huge potentialities to emerge as a veteran journalist.  His murder raised roars of protest across Tripura and also across the country.

Just 31 days after Santanu’s murder, Tripura's another senior journalist Sudip Datta Bhaumik was allegedly killed by a Tripura State Rifles 2nd Bn officials.  

Earlier state journalists headed many protest rallies demanding CBI investigation in both the murder cases since during the former left regime. 

Tripura's newly formed BJP Govt has decided to handover both the journalists' murder cases to CBI.
