AGARTALA, Feb 9 (TIWN): Congress party announced on Monday that it’s ready for the Dharmanagar by-election which will be conducted to fill up the vacated MLA post, since BJP MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen passed away.
Congress State President Ashish Saha told the reporters during his visit in Dharmanagar that the party would field a candidate in the election and is expecting a major victory.
Biswabandhu Sen died after he suffered a heart attack followed by months of struggle in hospital. Sen was also designated as the speaker of Tripura Assembly.
Sen was a life-long Congress politician in Tripura, joined BJP before the 2018 Assembly election.
With his demise a by-election is expected in the constituency – led the political parties in gearing up for the preparations.
The Congress state president also mentioned about the party's ongoing movement against repealing of MGNREGA and a protest rally to be organized on Feb 16 in capital city Agartala, which will lead to a deputation to the Governor.
