AGARTALA, Sep 28 (TIWN): Tripura former CM Manik Sarkar took a dig at the BJP government over the state's economic situations, alleging poor people are deprived of festival celebrations due to economic hardship. “People have no work in their hands, they are suffering due to lack of work and financial resources. Whereas the leaders are busy in inaugurating puja pandals, the reality of villages is totally opposite than the town areas,” said Sarkar.

“During the Left Front government’s time, we used to provide sufficient numbers of MNREGA works and Tuep as well but now the government has no interest in providing work opportunities for the poor people. We provided over 20 days of work before the Durga puja and before 5 to 6 days of the puja, payments were cleared. As a result people could celebrate the festivals spending money for their own families but now the scope does not exist under the BJP Govt,” he said.

“The festival is for whom? People want to celebrate these days with their family. They want to buy dresses for their children but now due to the financial crisis, lack of work resources — the festival season has remained depressing for the poor people,” said Sarkar.
