Traditional weavers need attention

Agartala, Aug 28, (TIWN) The state is developing gradually. But there are issues that need to be taken care of. Many clusters are on the verge of destruction due to lack of planning and development by the Handloom department .Working area of the department is being reduced day by day and the government now needs to take initiative to solve the problem.
Acceding to statistics, altogether 1, 56,000 weavers are in the state. But the number of commercial weavers is 2500.Remaining 1, 53,500 weavers are traditional weavers. Tribal and Manipuri weavers are also included among them. Official sources said, now it is time that handloom is again re-looked in the state.
