NEW DELHI, September 14, 2026: The 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi has concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration, marking a significant diplomatic achievement for India as the bloc seeks stronger cooperation amid growing global tensions.

The two-day summit, held under India’s BRICS presidency, brought together leaders of the expanded grouping to discuss international security, economic cooperation, global governance, trade, technology, climate change and sustainable development. The leaders unanimously adopted the declaration at the conclusion of the summit.

A key focus of the declaration was the need for greater representation of emerging and developing economies in global institutions. BRICS leaders reiterated their support for reforms of the international multilateral system, including stronger representation for developing countries.

The declaration also expressed serious concern over conflicts and instability in the Middle East. Leaders called for maximum restraint and stressed that international disputes should be addressed through dialogue, consultation and diplomacy.

Economic cooperation remained another major priority. BRICS countries emphasized strengthening trade, financial cooperation and cross-border payment systems while raising concerns over unilateral tariffs and other trade barriers.

The summit also highlighted cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, food and energy security, climate action, healthcare, science and technology. India announced initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation on issues including infectious diseases and global health.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described BRICS as an “ecosystem of solutions” and said the commitments made at the summit must now be converted into concrete, time-bound action.

With India handing over the BRICS chairship to China for 2027, the New Delhi Declaration is expected to serve as a roadmap for the bloc’s future cooperation and its growing role in global affairs.
