Iran has warned its neighbors that it could hit US military bases if Washington strikes, amid rising tensions over protests in Iran.

The warning comes as US President Donald Trump threatens to intervene on behalf of protesters, who have been met with a violent crackdown by Iranian authorities.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the US and Israel of fomenting the unrest .
