KOLKATA / AGARTALA, Jan 21 (TIWN): CPI-M's senior leader Khagen Das was given last adieu at Kolkata CPI-M Party Office in the presence Tripura CM Manik Sarkar.
On the 3rd day of the central committee meeting, the CPI-M leader from Tripura has passed away.
Praksh Karat, Biman Basu, Manik Sarkar, Surya Kanta Mishra, Pinarayi Vijayan along with other politburos paid floral tributes to Khagen Das.
The three-day Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) central committee meeting began here on Friday to firm up the party's political and strategic resolutions which are expected to be adopted in Hyderabad party congress in April.
According to party sources, two draft resolutions are likely to be considered in the meeting.
One draft is expected to favour the adjustment with the Congress to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and it also proposes that the party should be open to a UPA-1 like political adjustment when the party had extended support to the Congress government at the Centre from outside.
It is also learnt that the other draft is against any adjustment with any party and proposed the unity of the Left parties in the country to fight against the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). But, CPI-M’s senior leader Khagen Das has taken last breath today early morning at Kolkata.
Das died in heart-attack during his Koklata visit for Central Committee meeting. Khagen Das was also attending the central committee meeting of CPI-M and at Tripura Bhawan he took his last breath.
Khagen Das was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Tripura West constituency of Tripura and, one of the senior most members of the Communist Party of India.
