7 members of MHA team from Delhi arrives at Agartala

AGARTALA, August 25 (TIWN): The 7 member team from the Ministry of Home Affairs headed by Rajiv Gobha arrived at Agartala today. They will visit Reang Refugee Camp at kanchanpur Sub-Division under North Tripura District. Secretary of Relief and Rehabilitation Department Swapan Saha confirmed this to TIWN.

Speaking to TIWN Mr Saha told that that the 8member team including State official arrives in the State. 1 member of NGO from Assam will arrive in the evening. This seven member team consists of Rajiv Goabha- Additional Secretary MHA, Sambhu Singh- Joint Secretary (NE)- MHA, YSK Seshu Kumar- Joint Secretary (Ministry of HRD), Mukut Singh- Deputy Director General (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment), Professor Roma Debabrata and M.S Shankhamala Sen from Romal Dhar Institute, M.S. Amita Sen-  General Secretary of All Bengal Womens association- and M.S. Swarnali Brahma Chowdhury – Project director – North East Voluntary Association, Guwahati. He further asserted that the team will visit 6 camps of Reang Refugees at Kanchanpur Sub-Division under North Tripura District on tomorrow.

They will communicate with the refugees and local people to investigate about their demands and necessities. After that they will compile everything and submit the report within 12th September. The team is expected to fly for Delhi on 28th of this month.

Meanwhile Governor Mr. Padmanabha Balakrishna Achariya visited the Refugee Camp yesterday. It is seen that the Central Government took a serious notice on the issue of Reang Refugees. Talking to the refugees Governor Mr. Achariya told that Reangs are not Refugees but they are homeless.

 They belong to India. On the other hand the refugees demanded intervention from the Central Government to form an autonomous district council for the Bru community following repatriation that follows henceforth.
