AGARTALA, August 23(TIWN): Unsatisfactory compensation by Railway authority to the land owners to set up Agartala-Sabroom railway line sparked resentment among the land owners. Concerned land owners raised the issue with the Minister for PWD and Health Badal Choudhury while Choudhury assured them that he will look into the matter.

The railway authority acquired land to set up rail line from Agartala to Sabroom for the purpose of which different categories of land are acquired by the authority like as cultivable land and tilla land. The process of acquiring land was not a smooth chapter at all.

The area at Manurmukh under Belonia sub division where 62 land owner’s land was acquired by the Railway authority. Land owners involved with the chapter of land acquisition alleged that the compensation given to them is unsatisfactory as a result all the concerned land owners raised their voice in protest against less compensation paid to them.

They also alleged that the rate of compensation per kani of land given to them is an old rate which is not tallied at all with present rate of land over the locality Hence the concerned land owners have filed their objection to land acquiring authority to provide compensation to them as per present rate of land.

Another cause of resentment is that some of the land owners were paid compensation at a rate of Rs Lac per kani, on the other hand at a little distance some others were paid compensation at the rate of Rs 15 Lac per kani. Finally, they were assured of giving present rate.
