AGARTALA, Dec 25 (TIWN): Even though Tripura is familiar with Nripen Chakraborty as the first CPI-M Chief Minister in Tripura, but many do not know that Chakraborty passed the entrance examination from Outsahi High School in 1925. He left his studies in Dhaka University to join the Indian freedom movement. In 1931, he took part in the civil disobedience movement.
He was born at Bikrampur in Dhaka Dist of Bengal province of British India (present-day Bangladesh). He was the ninth child of Rajkumar and Uttamsunadari Chakraborty.
He was elected secretary of the Bengal unit of the party in 1937. In 1950, he was sent to Tripura by the party, and became an important organizer there, but the ending was just his grandson has described to TIWN.
Talking to TIWN, Sandeep Chakraborty (grandson of Nripen Chakraborty) who was invited in the programme by TMC, he said, "There is no politics and I have just invited by the Trinamools here but I can say that my grandfather was treated very badly by CPI-M. The last years of his life was full of insults and the person who was also a freedom fighter, was suspended from the party ! But grandafther was the 'Rupkar' (Designer) of Tripura".
