TIWN Dec 21, 2017
AGARTALA, Dec 21 (TIWN): Tripura Govt's corruptions have hit its every departments and Sports Dept is not an exception under Sports Minister Sahid Chowdhury. Even though Gramin-Kriras have begun across state, but all these are just for name-sake. Neither there is any enthusiasm not talent hunting by the state govt. Whereas against Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) bundles of scandal allegation have been coming, but other depts are not even matters of discussion. Neither players are given proper training, opportunity nor they are motivated to perform at the National Level. There is no focus of the Govt to train the sports-stars academically so that they have some job opportunities.
Voicing against the long deprivations, players under 'Tripura Players Association' have placed a deputation to the Sports Director today.
Their demands are :
1. To appoint the unemployed youths as Physical Instructors as much as possible,
2. At Govt costs, to arrange training of C.PEd, D.PEd for talented players,
3. To develop training quality in all Sub-divisional and Dist level coaching centres,
4. Stipend should be hiked from 1200 to 3000 minimum. Number of stipend holders must be increased,
5. For any national level matches, sports-stars must be trained for 21 days,
6. To give free sports-items to the BPL families etc.
Even though Dipa Karma brought heavy honours to this Northeastern State Tripura, but hardly the CPI-M Govt had given her recognition before she was nationally honoured after she qualified in Rio Olympics and Modi Govt's heavy financial helps and award also brought her into limelight.
When various states had helped Dipa Karmakar financially, but till day Tripura Govt except flower bouquet didn't give her anything. TIWN had called Sports Minister Sahid Chowdhury on the evening of Dipa's felicitation (before she was leaving for Rio) asking, whether the State Govt has given any financial aid to Dipa Karmakar ? In reply, Sahid Chowdhury said, "Why to help her financially ? Let her achieve something first and make country proud", when already Central Govt had awarded Dipa financially.
However, across every sections of sports a paralyzed condition is working since decades. Today, Tripura Players Association with a deputation led by MLA Asish Saha has asked the state govt to come out of the long slumber which is spoiling state's talents.
