CEO issues notification for Manu assembly by-election

Agartala, August 20 (TIWN): The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today issued official notification for the upcoming by-election at Manu assembly constituency.

The CEO visited Sabroom sub-division earlier on the day and held meeting with administrative officials to review administrative preparedness for conducting by-election at 39 Manu assembly constituency earlier on the day.

No nomination paper was submitted on the first day of nomination submission today, Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said.

Model code of conduct was imposed in the Manu assembly constituency area, he added.

Speaking about restrictive measures applicable for the by-poll, Chief Electoral Officer Jindal said that all ongoing works would continue as per schedule in the Manu constituency area. Restriction would be imposed on transfer and posting of government employees, the official added.

Nomination papers would be accepted till August 27. The papers would be scrutinized till August 28. The submitted nomination papers can be withdrawn latest by August 30.

While polling would be conducted on September 13, counting of votes would be done on September 16.

The state electoral chief said that central armed police personnel would be deployed for duty in all 46 polling stations slated to be used for the Manu assembly by-election. He said that vulnerability assessment of assembly constituencies for the by-election is still in progress.

The CEO today further met representatives of all major political parties including CPI (M), Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other regional parties at an all-party meeting held in the Sabroom dak-bungalow. He urged all political parties to maintain the election code of conduct during the poll schedule.
