AGARTALA, August 19 (TIWN): All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy would be visiting Tripura in the first week of September to take stock of the current state of affairs of the party, Tripura Trinamool Congress chairperson Ratan Chakraborty said here today.

Speaking to TIWN here this afternoon, TMC Tripura state chairperson Ratan Chakraborty said that many Congress and CPI (M) leaders are joining the Trinamool Congress to strengthen the party base in the state. TMC is eyeing to capture power in the next assembly elections in Tripura in 2018, he said.

Chakraborty further said that the party would soon launch a strong movement to emerge as the main opposition party in Tripura with a target to capture power in the 2018 Assembly elections. “There is no functional opposition party except TMC in Tripura. Most of the opposition parties are moving for collective or individual favour from the government and the ruling party. Attacks are being leveled on TMC leaders and supporters alone”, he claimed.

Asked about the relationship between ruling CPI (M) and other political parties in the changed political scenario since the NDA came into power at Delhi, the TMC leader said that Congress would never launch any effective and pro-people movement against the misrule of CPI (M) in Tripura due to clandestine understanding between them at the national level.

"We need to launch a strong movement against the CPI(M) and discard the politics of Congress. We have no doubt in snatching power from the CPI(M) in the next Assembly elections in this state," he said.

“Our leader Mukul Roy would be visiting the state to take stock of the latest situation and suggest new measures that might be pertinent”, he added.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is learnt to be visiting Tripura later this year.
