AGARTALA, August 19 (TIWN): The CPI (M) state committee would choose its candidate for the upcoming by-election at Manu assembly constituency, party sources said today.The party’s two day state committee meeting starting August 19 is slated to discuss a number of strategic issues including party resolutions adopted at the central committee meeting held earlier this month.A source inside the CPI (M) said that the state committee would be discussing on the political agenda decided at the recent central committee meeting held at New Delhi. The two day central committee meet that conclude on August 10 finalized the conference schedules for party bodies ranging from branch committees to the next party congress.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, party’s state general secretary Bijan Dhar, former MP Bajuban Riyan, Rama Das, finance minister Badal Choudhury and Minister of Agriculture Aghore Debbarma attended the central committee meet.
The meeting is expected to decide schedule and venue for the next state conference beside a set of agendas including the party’s stand on rising Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on retail, defence, insurance and other sectors in the NDa government’s regume.
A separate source said that Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leader Arun Tripura is likely to be considered to contest the by-election. Arun is currently serving as member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and chairman of the Rupaichari Block Advisory Committee (BAC).
The Congress party today announced Mailafru Mog as the party candidate for the Manu assembly constituency by-election, making one step ahead of the opposition Congress party.
