AGARTALA, August 18 (TIWN): Dispute over grasping land measuring 650 kani of khas land by land mafias may lead to a major trouble. One Karangicherra ADC village, adjoining Asharambari BSF camp under Tulashikhar block, Khowai is having 6500 kani of sources especially expensive tress in it.

The 650 kani vast land serves as the only source of income for many families including Telenga, Bengalee and kanda community people. A group of land mafias from adjacent Behalabari, Sombaria bazaar and city is in desperation to take grasp of the vast land.

They want lease of the land for rubber plantation, hence, trying to acquire the land through forest patta bullying the villagers. The locals are fighting for their existence and the mafias fighting against the villagers.  

During the Lok Sabha poll, the sub division administration requested the leaders of either community to evade any untoward incident in the area. But, after the conclusion of election procedure, a perturbed atmosphere could be noticed in the area that may led to a severe scuffle, according to the administration higher ups.

SDM Samit Roy said, centring round the 650 kani khas land, to evade feud among the locals, the forest department was given the charge of the land. A committee was formed under joint Forest Management (JFM) to work over the issue.

Sources revealed that investigation is going on regarding the disclosure of the secret information of the khas land. The Khowai Tulashikhar block area covers a vast land including hillocks and plain areas. The land covers government khas and forest reserve which got disclosed before the land mafias, said sources.
