AGARTALA, August 14 (TIWN): A three-day long Neermahal tourism festival is going to start here from September 01 at Melaghar that would include competitions on Manasha Mangal, swimming and boat race. It would continue till September 03.
Information and Cultural Affairs and Tripura Tourism Development Corporation organized the festival in accordance with Rudrasagar Fisherman Cooperative Society, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sepahijala District Administration along with other departments.
The tourism festival aims to develop Neermahal more eye-catching towards tourists in and across the country. Retrofitting work at Neermahal is in progress. Besides, in order to hold a specific water level, ring road construction encircling the lake is also in progress. With the aim to make the festival successful, a preparation meet was organized at Sagarmahal here yesterday. Melaghar Municipal Council Chairperson Anima Malla Barman presided over the meeting; decision was taken to organize the Neermahal tourism festival from Sep 01 till Sep 03 including competitions on Manasha Mangal, swimming and boat race.
As a part of the festival, cultural programmes would be organized every day. Local artists and artists from outside the state would perform in the programme. Exhibition stalls would be opened from different departments.
MLA Tapan Chandra Das, Nalchar and Mohanbhog Panchayat Samiti chairman, Vice-chairman, former Chairman of Melaghar Panchayat Samiti, Sonamura sub division Magistrate and Deputy Director of Information and Cultural Affairs along with officers of different departments remained present there during the meeting.
Advisory committee, executive committee and other sub-committees were formed for the management of the festival. Chairperson Anima Malla Barman was elected as Chairperson of management committee and Satyaban Das, senior Information Officer and Rudrasagar Fisherman Cooperative Society Secretary Satyaban Das was elected as the joint convener of management committee.
