AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): Generating record breaking mandays, Mandwai, a relatively backward and tribal dominated RD Block under West district looks set to top in MGNREGA performance, according to sources.

An average of 99 mandays was generated in the last Fiscal Year (2013-14), under the national flagship programme- MGNREGA and another RD Block Hezamara stood second by creating 92 mandays. Interestingly, Dukli RD Block could not make any impact in the last year as it generated only 77 mandays.

During the year 2013-14, the RD department released Rs. 177.75 crore for all nine blocks in the West district creating an average generation of 82 mandays. This year, the RD department has disbursed Rs. 25.56 crore to carry out MGNREGA which created only 10 mandays.

Lok Sabha elections and its subsequent process have come on the way of receiving fund from the Centre."We hope RD Ministry to increase fund flow to implement the MGNREGA for the year 2014-15 and we are ready to utilize the money at the earliest", said an official of District administration.

As per the government's decision, the district administration would focus on creation of fixed assets, boosting connectivity and agriculture sector, he said. In the last year, many all weatherproof roads, water bodies and earth leveling works have been accomplished bringing overall development in the socio-economic condition of people living in rural areas.
