AGARTALA, Oct 3 (TIWN): After the ending of the five-day long Durga Puja, the capital city Agartala is now getting ready to welcome Maa Laxmi on Thursday. Agartala is all decked up for Laxmi Puja celebration, however customers are unhappy with the skyrocketing price of various food items.

The Laxmi puja festival instills a spirit of fervor and gaiety into the whole community during the festival.

From Gol Bazar to Battala markets are just busy day-night with selling and purchasing of items.

Laxmi Puja is one of the most important features of Diwali celebrations. Laxmi, who is considered the goddess of light, beauty, good fortune and wealth, is worshipped on the occasion of Diwali to bring prosperity in the family. She is also worshiped to achieve success and fortune. It is however said that she does not reside long with anyone who is lazy and untidy or desire her only as wealth. That is why before the Laxmi Puja, people actively clean their home and worship her with immense devotion.

Lakshmi is said to be the daughter of the sage Bhrigu. Legends say that she took refuge in the ocean of milk when the gods were sent into exile. Lakshmi was reborn when Lord and Demon churned the ocean to get ‘Amrut’, the drink of immortality.
