KVK organizes workshop on fish breeding

AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): Dhalai District Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in accordance with the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Guwahati today organized a workshop on fresh water culture of clown knife fish (chital fish) and ornamental fish.

At least 20 fish farmers were imparted training in the workshop. Fish expert of KVK Ramanuj Chakraborty has taken initiative to breed fish in Dhalai River as well as different brooks and water bodies.

He said, “Ornamental fish means aquarium and I want to convert the water bodies of fish farmers into aquarium”. The fish farmers were urged to increase the breeding of different species of ornamental fishes in their water bodies. The fish farmers are quite enthusiastic over ornamental fish farming.

Also Ramanuj Chakraborty said, “With the joint initiative of KVK and College of Fisheries, the three experts from Guwahati- R.K. Saha, M.K. Datta and S.C. Mandal on Aug 08 imparted training to 20 fish farmers on exotic and colourful piscine species, their nourishment and breeding. The training has benefited the fish farmers.

At least 10 fish farmers were distributed clown knife fish-finger in the workshop. Former Chairman of Ambassa Panchayat Samiti Niranjan Paul (present Vice-Chairman), member Nitish Debnath, Jagat Das, people’s representative Ranajit Debbarma, Mankumari Sharma and Milan Debnath remained present there in the workshop.

“We want every fish farmer to move forward by breeding clown knife fish, a rare species which is towards extinction”, said Chakraborty. Pradhan Ranajit Debbarma said, “The fish farmers are enthusiastic about fresh water culture of clown knife fish and ornamental fish”.
