AGARTALA, August 12 (TIWN): The state cabinet today decided to induct 465 new Multi-Purpose Workers (MPW) in the Department of Health & Family Welfare to bridge the gap in healthcare at the grass-root level.Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat after a meeting of the state cabinet this evening, Health Minister Badal Choudhury said that 253 female multi-purpose workers and 212 male multi-purpose workers would be inducted in the Department.Minister for Rural Development (RD) Naresh Jamatia said later today that the cabinet decided to induct 13 junior engineers, 13 head clerks and 13 senior computer assistants. The new induction would be used to bridge the gap of workforce created by the newly created blocks of the state.

A separate source informed tonight that Bishweswar Nandi, coach to Commonwealth Games medalist Dipa Karmakar, would be suggested to the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) for promotion as special case.

Nandi isn’t a graduate and promotion to the next designation would need a candidate to be a graduate, the source said adding that the cabinet has decided to propose a special relaxation for him.

“We think that he would be especially helpful if he could continue to train Dipa Karmakar in her gymnastics acrobatics. He has trained Dipa to win medals for India in the Commonwealth Games this far. We are hopeful about him”, the source said.
