Malaria outbreak back again, two kids dead, 341 freshly infected

Agartala, August 11 (TIWN): Malaria today made a sudden comeback with two more kids dead from the parasite at Dhalai and Gomati districts.

One Karnati Tripura (6), daughter of Madan Tripura of Natun Dalapati Para of Gandacherra sub-division died from malaria at the Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital, a source in the Department of Health and Family Welfare said.

A source in the family said that Karnati was suffering from fever for quite a few days. She was admitted at Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital one day back.

She died at 11:30 pm on Sunday night, hospital sources said.

Dr. Arajit Sinha, a medical officer on duty at the hospital, was later accused on negligence of duty resulting in the untimely death of Karnati. Relatives of the deceased told the local media that they would lodge complaint of negligence of duty against Dr. Sinha and other medical officers of Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital with the police following which Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sanjay Debbarma visited the family. The official persuaded the family to stay away from filing any complaint, a source in the family said.

An official communiqué from the health department informed later this evening that Julina Reang (7), daughter of Haranjoy Reang from Barthai Bari of Amarpur sub-division died at the Tripurasundari district hospital in Gomati district.

Out of 2,629 patients who underwent blood tests at different hospitals and healthcare institutions across the state today, 341 were freshly diagnosed to have contacted malaria.
