AGARTALA, Sep 16 (TIWN): After Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty lied publicly saying '13000 posts were never meant for 10323 teachers', now Urban Development Minister in a reply to a question related to flood-cause delivered "double shock" exposing Manik Sarkar's Ministers sharp skills in lying to hide their shortfalls. After being asked what is the reason behind continuous water-loggings in Agartala City, Urban Development Minister Manik Dey told TIWN, "In my whole life, I have not seen rain at such a level. I don't know whether you have seen that much of rain in your life ! Due to record level raining, the flood has hit the capital city".

Giving details of excuses behind the flood cause, Dey further said, "The town is divided in 3 parts : One is Katakhal's Northern part,  the Southern part of Howrah river, and the middle area of the barrage that is 17 KM long. But among the 3 parts, one part has been badly affected that is the Southern part of river Howrah due to excessive rain".

"Natural that much rain doesn't occur in Tripura. In my age I couldn't see that much of rain but I don't know whether you have seen or not. In some places I heard tin-roof has been holed", Dey added.

"Due to the excessive rain this Southern part of Agartala City flooded 3 times that also hit the Katakhal. Excessive Howrah water overflowed Assam-Agartala National Highway. The 3 times floods have hit the poor people at the most", said Dey.

Mentioning about the border-drainage systems including Kalapania Khal, Akhaura Khal and Bijoy Kumar Chowmuhani led drain towards border that flow the water towards Bangladesh.

"In this condition when continuous rain the town suffers from water-log. Total 11 pumps are working for water-discharging process. But other places' water level within 2 / 3 hours downed except Orient Chowmuhani and Ganda-Chowmuhani areas. Gandachara has a pump but due to excessive rain it can not cover the whole area", added Dey.

"This year we have leant what can happen when Excessive rain happens. We have made a committee for that comprising AMC, DWS, Urban Development, Water Resource Development engineers. CM also inspected the issues" , said CM.

"We will now work on the border areas drains across Kalapania and other areas. More new pumps will be set on town areas", said Manik Dey.

Agartala City has been identified as Indian’s fasted flooding city. Excessive rain also occurred in other states but within an hour of rain such water-logs nowhere happened. Infact other subdivisions of Tripura also didn't suffer like Agartala had suffered. During Northeast flood one time only other parts had affected but not even Agartala's 10 % of agonies the public had suffered.
