AGARTALA, Sep 5 (TIWN): Mother Teresa’s Death Anniversary observed in Tripura on Tuesday. On this occasion Sisters of Nirmala Sishu Bhavan organized a programme to pay tribute to Mother.
In the morning Sisters of Nirmala Sishu Bhavan sang a prayer song to pay tribute to Mother. After that flowers and sweets were distributed among the orphaned children. Cultural programme is also being organized.
It is to be mentioned that Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic Religious Sister and missionary of Albanian origin who lived for most of her life in Calcutta.
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. In the year 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded Nobel Prize.
Mother first visited Agartala in1977 when Tripura's CM was Late Nripen Chakraborty. Nripen Chakraborty offered land and a dwelling place for Missionaries of Charity Sisters and Orphans. In 1980 during Mother’s visit a leprosy centre was set up at Kumarghat. In the year 2003 Civic citizens honored Mother Teresa. And in the year 2010 Mother’s Birth Centenary Celebrations started at Agartala.
