Earlier Tripura had expressed serious resentment over the decision of setting up of separate railway division in Silchar, ignoring the long standing demand of Tripura. The state government had raised the issue of separate railway division and railwayrecruitment centre in Tripura at least for five times.

The issue has been discussed with Railway minister and Prime Minister several times besides, Railway Board but it was turned down on the ground that railway-fleet, passenger movement and administrative set up did not permit separate railway division for the state.

About 398 kilometres distance between Lumding and Agartala has a pair of passenger train on regular basis besides service with Silchar and Dharmanagar, north-eastern end of Tripura; moreover, the state is sharing international border situating at the corner, which substantiate the demand of separate railway division. However that the separate railway division and recruitment centre for Tripura is necessary because Agartala is soon connected with Akhaura of Bangladesh and southern entry point of Bangladesh at Feni and people are solely dependent on railway.

The country is having 68 railway divisions and northeast has 5 divisions and all are in Assam. People of Tripura have not objecting the decision of Silchar Railway Division but reiterating the claim for a separate division in Tripura considering it’s locations and communication bottleneck. Earlier the Congress led UPA government has been disrespecting the people of Tripura on political choice keeping aside the welfare norms. On view of Modi’s LOOK East policy people of Tripura demand for RailwayDivision in Tripura
