Stone-pelting on running trains, a challenge for Railways : Day to day Stone pelting risking security of the passengers

AGARTALA, Aug 27 (TIWN): Saturday night’s stone-pelting on the Udaipur-Agartala local train, is not the first such case that Railway is dealing with, but it has become a day to day event but seen with negligence. After the TIWN news publication, in feedbacks received from readers the increasing stone pelting on running trains came under focus. However, either express or locals but the stone-pelting has turned a matter of concern for Railway Dept as well as the everyday passengers. Railway officials inspected after a woman was injured in a running train on Saturday evening, but similar incidents happens many times earlier. It has become quite a challenge to get rid of similar incidents. Reported mostly in densely-populated areas on the city’s outskirts, stone pelting incidents have left passengers and loco pilots injured besides damaging window panes in coaches.

Udaipur-Agartala train service is continuously suffering from sudden stone pelting incidents, since the train was inaugurated in 2017, January 24. On Saturday a woman passenger was injured on head when some unknown miscreants threw stone on the train. A big stone was found after it hit on her head, however no serious injuries was reported. This incident created a tension among the passengers of the running local train. Earlier allegation came that after the bus service was facing losses since the train service had begun and thus stone pelting came in fashion. However who has done the Saturday incident, it was not known. The injured woman was later taken to Udaipur and would checked up in hospital.

Resentment have brewed among the passengers of Udaipur-Agartala train. Talking to the injured woman’s family they alleged, “The stone came suddenly and hit Anupa Begum on her head. It made a huge sound and tension gripped the passengers following the incident. Such risky incidents are not acceptable”.

Another passenger said, “Such incidents happened earlier also. And that’s why I never sit beside window much and exactly in this area such incidents happen more”

However, Railway Division officials met the victim and took the notes.

The safety has turned a matter of concern in local running trains in Tripura. Especially the Udaipur-Agartala train suffers most from such dangerous incidents.
