AGARTALA / AMARPUR, Aug 25 (TIWN): The collapse of Teliamura-Amarpur bridge on Thursday night indicates the negligence of state administration and lack of control on the local administrations by Sadar Division. The accident that happened due to the over-loading truck ride on the Teliamura-Amarpur route's Rangamati bridge but this could cause life losses too. Talking to TIWN, Tripura PWD Chief Engineer Somesh Chandra Das said over phone, "Due to the local administration's negligence this incident happened yesterday. PWD has measured the loading capacity of every bridges and has put signboards near each and every bridges. But if the administration at Amarpur could see the matter carefully then such incident would not happen. However, the pakka-bridge construction near by the wooden bridge is almost completed and there will be no more such dangers". Question raises, when rail accident happened at UP due to the reckless driving of the driver, the liability came upon the railway division.

So although local administration and driver's reckless driving led such an accident the liability also comes on PWD chief and the Minister--- PWD Chief Engineer Somesh Chandra Das however couldn't deny the fact. There Chief Engineer also accepted that there was no police after 6 PM nearby the bridge.

The bridge which was the life-line of Amarpur-Teliamura has been fully collapsed, although by fortune no life was killed so far on Thursday late evening.

The complains regarding the bridge was done time to time in the PWD office of Amarpur but no serious action had taken by the authority at there, alleged the locals of Amarpur.

The Rangamati Wooden bridge was collapsed in the late evening when a brick-carrying tripper was riding on it. Immediately getting informed the officials, police rushed to the spot and the tripper identified with number TR01 N 1892 also had fallen, with the bridge was collapsed.

TIWN talked to the local people on spot on Thursday night, but one of the locals alleged this was expected incident as the 'PWD of Amarpur was sleeping in peace without proper recovery of the bridge'. "Just 2 days back this bridge was recovered but how within 2 days it can again be collapsed ?”, said another local. “Eventhough 24 hrs duty should be provided on the critical bridge but police escape at 6 PM”, said a local businessman there.

However CPI-M MLA Parimal Debnath visited the spot, but couldn't control the public-anger.

Answering the media questions, PWD officer in Amapur Bijan Debbarma said, “A maintenance work was going on  the opposite side of the bridge. Whereas above 8 ton's weight a vehicle is not allowed but nobody cares for the rules”.

Such kinds of incidents are not less dangerous than UP train accident that could call similar tragedies. Atleast a Red-flag on the bridge would be helpful to avoid such accidents, so that the drivers could become alert while crossing the bridge.  There was also no red-flag to mark the danger-signs led such a critical accident although fortunately nobody died.
