AGARTALA, August 6 (TIWN): Even as power shortage continue haunting people, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) said the overall power situation would be improved within next couple of days. Out of total three units at Rukhia, one turbine working while two remained shut down due to technical fault. The second unit is expected to be operational by next week with BHEL engineers trying hard to finish repair works. However, fate of third unit at Rukhia in Sonamura subdivision is still uncertain.
BHEL engineers will open the third unit tomorrow and then only we will know what happens to the turbine at Rukhia”, said TSECL Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) SK Roy.
Even as Barmura thermal power project is on operation, it could not generate power at par with the installed capacity. The Barmura power project is supposed to produce 42 MW power out now it is generating only 35 leading to shortage of power in the state.
However, Palatana power plant has been producing 340/350 MW power which is expected level taking into consideration of its installed capacity. As of now, the Palatana power project will remain in operation keeping in mind of the power shortage on the entire Northeast region.
It means Palatana power plant will remain on operational until the overall power situation improves in the Northeast region. The second unit of Palatana power plant is expected to be operation by September with gas pipe laying works is in full swing.
