Agartala, August 5 (TIWN): The state cabinet today decided to regularize ace gymnast and Commonwealth Games medalist Dipa Karmakar in her post of Junior Physical Instructor under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, Sports and Youth Affairs minister Sahid Choudhury said that the cabinet today resolved to regularize Dipa Karmakar as Junior PI. She would be posted at her current duty-station – the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC) where she is also being trained by her coach Bishweshwar Nandi.

Dipa Karmakar was recruited in the same post on June 20, 2012 as fixed pay employee. Though Dipa’s job would be regularized as per usual formula after an uninterrupted service of five years, the government felt the necessity to recognize her exceptional feat at the Commonwealth Games and decided to regularize her out of turn.

A source in the Department later said that Dipa would get a monthly salary with a pay band of Rs. 5,310-Rs. 24,000 henceforth.

The source said that the regular pay-scale is expected to help Dipa and her family in future.

Dipa bagged a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games, 2014 at Glasgow in the UK this year. She is the first Indian woman to have won any medal at the Commonwealth Games ever.

The state cabinet today congratulated her for her exceptional feat and wished her for her new conquests ahead.

General Public feeling across the State and social media is that, Tripura Govt  should have declared a cash reward of minimum Rs 5 Lakhs immediately upon Dipa's achievement of becoming First Indian woman athlete to clinch a Bronze Medal at Commonwealth Games.
