TIWN July 24, 2017
AGARTALA, July 24 (TIWN): With the reference of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland : 3 Northeastern State Govts who regularized contractual teachers to meet the 'quality-education' in their states, Tripura's Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers are going in hunger strike from August-1st, if within the mean time they are not regularized. According to the teachers, 'If Quality Education is needed, why the contractual teachers are not being regularized ? Instead of making the contractual teachers as regular, Tripura Govt has announced 12000 new non-teaching posts at regular basis, but why for RMSA and SSA teachers only, the Tripura Govt has no fund ?' Protesting against the long deprivation, amid uncertain future of the teachers a rally was conducted from Rabindra Bhawan and all the teachers later gathered at office line, showing mass agitation. Talking to the media the teachers said, "In 2013, the SSA project had begun in Tripura, Presently there are 5,145 teachers working in SSA and more 660 staffs are there. We have been demanding for our regularizing since decade, but instead of regularizing us and listening our pleas, the govt has left our futures with much uncertainties".
The SSA teachers since many years have been demanding to be regularized under SSA Welfare Organization.
The cause behind those demands placed by the teachers under SSA Welfare Organization, staffs said :
1. For the sake of 'Quality Education', regularization is necessary,
2. As per RTE and various letters to the Central Govt the teachers must be considered as regular teachers,
3. First Tripura Govt has to appeal the Central govt for this and thus this job should be done by Tripura Govt first,
4. Tripura Govt in 2011-2012 already asked the central govt to regularize the teachers and central govt also agreed,
5. As per 2015's RTI data, 5,145 teachers P.A. bill and in 2017-18, fund for 5,808 teachers were sanctioned from centre,
6. Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha in an interview said that SSA teachers are being paid at regular scale !
7. Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa Govts have regularized the teachers in their states.
With all theses the SSA teachers for the betterment of their lives as well as 'quality education' across schools, have appealed the state govt to make them regular to avoid hunger strike on August 1st.
