AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): Giving a surprise to the Secularism of democratic India, the management committee of a Christian Missionary school in West Tripura has declined to consider Eid as a 'significant' occasion to mark as holiday, when nationwide schools, colleges have been off on Monday.
The school has been identified as Montfort Higher Secondary School at Champaknagar, Agartala.
Whereas all the Govt and private schools, including missionary schools remained closed, the Monfort school remained open for the whole day.
Asking the School Principal about the mismatch, he said this day has been observed inside the school.
The Principal also tried to explain that he wanted to 'teach the students about the significance of the day', and also a drawing competition was held inside the school, even though the Muslim Students were in leave.
The principal mentioned that only 2 students are Muslims in his school
Questions also raised after the disclosure, whether secularism lessons are given to the students inside the school premise of Montfort or not.
Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, that has been celebrated across the state.
