AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): The first Generic medicine store in Tripura under ‘Jan Aushadi’ scheme has improved the availability of different most important drugs with 95 stock items and gradually gaining popularity, said Dr Kaushik Chakraborty, an assistant professor of Pharmacology in Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).
However, it is alleged that a few of senior medicos set for a malicious design to create negative perception saying less costlier drugs are less effective for their own interest. At such, Generic drugs are equivalent in potency, efficacy and are much cheaper comparing to the other branded drugs, Dr Chakraborty referred.
To ensure the availability of quality medicines at affordable price to all, Tripura is likely to get second generic medicine store at IGM hospital by next month, informed the in-charge of generic medicine store at AGMC and GBP hospital Sankar Paul adding that it will be helpful to reduce the burden of increasing treatment related costs on the majority section of the people.
“We have been selling Generic drugs on an average of 60-70 percent prescription from last one month while previously the average was 30-40 percent”, said Paul.
An independent society- Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) under Dept. of Pharmaceuticals (GOI) runs the implementation of Jan Aushadi Scheme (JAS) across the country since December, 2018. “The BPPI is supplying drugs to us on time. For that availability of Generic drugs are improving, said Paul.
