AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Tripura University Vice Chancellor Anjan Kumar Ghosh on Tuesday finally called state media persons led by bundles of allegations brought against him after Tripura University's recent promotions.

Addressing the press meet the media shy VC said counterattacking the allegations brought against him by University Professors, "There is an English proverb... People will question on all the good things they hear about you, but believe all bad without a second though it".

Denying the allegations of any illegal appointment of experts by him, Ghosh said that maximum of the professors who are agitating for not being appointed had failed to pass the interview for higher promotions before the selection committee. In the selection committee there were renowned subject experts from all over India as well as local experts were present during the interview and as the VC, Ghosh has preferred some reputed experts from IITs, Central Universities and Top State Universities from all over India.

About the food issues VC said, "...free lunch or tea and snacks at the guest house with the external guests have been stopped. A cup of tea and busicuit ar Rs. 15 or rice and fish at Rs. 130 may not seem very high, but with an average daily turn this numbers add up to Rs. 25,000 to 30,000 per month. This expenditure was not paid from any individual pocket but from the Central Govt treasury. To me, this appeared to be a gross misuse of Govt funds. So, it was stopped.....".

Apart from this the selection procedure was done following these steps :

1. Screening and evolution of all applications received against an ad by a screening and evaluation committee that consists of the Dean of Faculty, the Director of IQAC (internal quality assurance committee), a subject expert and the Vice Chancellor.

2. Selection Process by interviewing by the Selection Committee consisting of three subject experts of high reputation, Visitors nominee, the Dean of the Faculty, the Vice Chancellor and other experts for reservation / gender specific cases.

"The special committee headed by Prof. BK Agarwal was formed  as per the demand of the agitation faculty group on 27 January, 2017. I would alos point out that Prof. Agarwal is a very respected senior faculty was the former pro-VC of the University working closely with my professor. Again, his name as the chairman of this special committee was insisted by the same agitators who had gheraoed me on 27, Jan 2017", said the VC.

Moreover, it was the VC who asked for the report from this committee on three occasion and was told that the report was not completed yet and the members worked slowly without any influence from the administration, but no selection were held during the time this committee worked on the report and finally a version of the report was submitted at about midnight of May-5, 2017, when another "Gherao Drama" was going on in the VC's office

1)It was not signed by the chairman,

2)It was not signed by the two external members.

However, on May-5 evening Prof. S Sinha resigned from the committee.

Ghosh explained and gave details about E-book purchasing figures since 2014.

The VC also expressed despair for such confusions created by agitated professors which have hampered the reputation of the University and also changed public's trust, perception about the University (due to such rumours), saying that he can answer any queries raise related to the issue.
