TIWN May 30, 2017

AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): West Bengal, Tripura and other Bengali populated places have geared up to celebrate Jamai Shasthi on Tuesday.
Since the morning heavy demands of flowers, food items were witnessed across state's markets.
The busiest shops were the sweet shops, Hilsa fish and meat to fulfill the Bengali tradition of feeding the Jamai (son-in-law) in full stomach so that he keeps their daughter happy for the whole year.
Apart from that this celebration is a kind of getting together of all family members amidst busy daily lives.
Purchasing and gifting of clothes are an important tradition of Jamai Shasthi and Agartala shop-keepers like every year received high profits.
However, since the morning rain has slightly disrupted the plans and programmes, but there is no respite from selling purchasing for Jamai Shasthi.
State is also observing an official holiday but everyone is advised to eat in control as the medical shops of state have gone for 24 hours strike on Tuesday.
