Kamalpur, July 23 (TIWN): Sixteen families were rendered homeless in post-poll violence unleashed by cadres of the ruling CPI (M) at Mahavir tea estate area in Kamalpur.
The terror has been prevailing in the area since the results of the recently concluded three tier panchayat election was declared, Paritosh Paul - a local Trinamool Congress leader alleged.
The TMC leader alleged that the victory rally, or so as they call it, ravaged households of all who supported the party in the panchayat election. 15 month old kid and expecting mothers were tortured alike in the relentless spree of victory celebration in the past 72 hours. One Dipali Munda was molested; her 15 year old child was physically tortured. Few unruly CPI (M) leaders of the locality tried to molest one Kabita Gour of the locality. Jay Prakash Goala, a school student of the ninth standard, was subjected to serous torture on his way back from school.
An FIR was filed by sixteen families at the local police station against eleven CPI (M) supporters including Raju Kol, Abu Kol and others.
Police personnel from Kamalpur police station helped the families ousted from their homes in the terror till late night on Tuesday.
In a different incident, CPI (M) cadres allegedly led assault on the household of a Congress leader and candidate in the panchayat poll - Raj Kumar Goala. The latter lodged complaint with the police later on the night following which the angered CPI (M) supporters set his house on fire. The police personnel who reached following the complaint stood inactive, the Congress leader alleged. Fire tenders reached the spot much later and doused the fire. The fire incident has caused massive losses to the family including stocks of foodgrains and furniture, family sources stated.
