Violent attack on BJP state president in CM's constituency

AGARTALA, July 22 (TIWN): BJP Tripura state president Sudhindra Dasgupta and five of his party leaders have been assaulted in a violent attack allegedly by CPI-M cadres in a village of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's assembly constituency Dhanpur under Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district Police rescued them from a village close to Indo-Bangladesh border, falls around 6 o'clock in this evening.

Jatrapur police has registered a case after receiving a complaint from BJP leaders but did not arrest anybody even after two-hours of the incident. Rather police advised them to remain in the police station

until the situation comes under control that enraged the party workers in Agartala. However, police in Jatrapur police station stated before arresting anybody from, it is the duty of the police to maintain peace in the locality and safely send them back to Agartala.

Meanwhile, Dasgupta expressed dissatisfaction over the role of police and stated: "Despite spoke to IGP and Chief Minister's office nothing has improved and we are remained in police station. Police is also scared to escort us because CPI-M cadres are gathered in two different locations on the way to Agartala for another attack on us".

The BJP team went to Dhanpur to meet the victims of post panchayat poll violence in Sonamura sub-division. More than 1000 families belong to BJP have been tortured for past two days as soon as CPI-M won the panchayat election. According to allegation, after holding meeting with the villagers when they were returning, a group of miscreants belong to CPI-M shouted slogan against BJP and blocked their road.

The protestors pelted stone and bricks on the vehicles and attempted to snatch away the weapon from my police escorting the team. CPI-M has perpetrated violence on BJP supporters and leaders across the state well-ahead of three-tire panchayat poll, held on July 15. As many as 100 party supporters including ladies and children were severely injured in the attacks.

"The degree of violence on BJP workers and representatives became multiple when we won 141 seats in panchayat election and now they targeted to kill the party leaders. This is the third attempt on party president in past two weeks," said party secretary Tapas Bhattacharjee.
