AGARTALA, July 22(TIWN): The schedule for taking oath for the newly – elected members of Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats was announced today.Speaking to reporters at secretariat today morning Manik Dey Minister for Panchayat said all elected 6109 gram panchayat members out of 6111 seats from all the districts of the state will be administered the oath of office on 6th, 7th and 8th August at block headquarters.

The oath will be administered by officials from district administration, PWD, agriculture, fishery, ARD and DWS. After the oath of members gram pradhan and upa – pradhan will be selected, the minister said. The oath of 419 elected members of 35 panchayat samities will be administered on 7th, 8th and 9th August by District Panchayat Officer and BlocK Officers. Then chairman and vice – chairman of panchayat samities will be selected said Mr. Dey.

He also informed that all the 116 Zila Parishad members of eight districts will be administered oath on 12, 13 and14 August. The director of Panchayat Department will administer the oath to elected members and Principal Secretary of Panchayat Department will administer the oath to Sabhadipati and Upa- Sabhadipati.

He said that the elections for the three-tier panchayat system in the state  passed off peacefully  around 90 per cent of the voters exercising their franchise. The CPM-led Left Front has secured absolute majority in 563 of the 591 gram panchayats and all the 35 panchayat samitis and eight zila parishads.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, for the first time, secured a majority in five gram panchayats and won many seats in several other gram panchayats and panchayat samitis. The polling for the three-tier panchayats — gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishads — was held on Tuesday and the results were announced on Saturday.
