AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): Even though common service of taxes but who will contribute for Tripura that may develop industry, IT here ?, a question erupted from the opposition MLAs when discussion about GST was going on. When Tripura Finance Minister, Govt Officials continued to talk long about 'GST's implementation in Tripura to benefits for the Govt of India' adding one rule under GST, (which was relaxed by Govt of India for Northeast states and J&K), that, "Traders with a turnover of less than Rs 10 lakh a year won’t have to register for or pay the goods and service tax (GST)"; then MLA Ratan Lal Nath raised question whereas it is a good initiative by Central Govt for relaxating taxes below 10 lakhs, but will Tripura Govt attempt to raise the business up or it will continue to draw the funds without contribution ? "Is that mean, Central will continuously give us money... but we will not give anything in return", said Nath.
"Will Tripura Govt ever stand on its feet or will continue in fund begging", said Nath.
Nath's second question was, "How GST can generate employment ? "No big industry will come in Tripura, it is clear... then how it will contribute revenue and generate employment", asked Nath.
However, in reply B Kaur, Commissioner of Taxes, said, "It will marginally generate employment as the company chief will need some employees for his/ her company and under him / her the employment will be generated. Apart from that when the items which will be imported, the company will buy them from outside, so it will generate indirect revenues".
However, M Nagaraju, the Principal Secretary of Industry and Commerce said that this GST is much complex economic move, although it's a good initiative and the physical money will be contributed via technology as 'every voice will be data base'.
However, the GST workshop was utter cold and response was very less held under Tripura Govt, without any resource person from the Central Govt.
