UDAIPUR, May 9 (TIWN): Three day long Rajarshi Fair kicked off at Udaipur, erstwhile capital of Tripura on the occasion of Tagore’s 156th birth anniversary.

The programme was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Ratan Bhowmik at ‘Rajarshi Mukta Mancha’ in Old Royal palace. MLA Madhab Saha was also present on that occasion.

Amidst bad shapes of Udaipur's ancient places, historical spots the Tourism Minister boosted about Good Governance of CPI-M Govt in Tripura.

This “Rajarshi Mela” is commemorating in Old Royal Palace of Udaipur since many years and like every year the Panchayat of Rajnagar area, is directing the preparatory works to make this fair successful. Many governmental stalls have been set-up and local shop keepers are in full mood of business, TIWN Udaipur correspondent reported.

It has been said that Tagore had a very pleasant relation with King Birchandra Manikya which inspired him to pen “Rajarshi” (The Saintly King) and “Visharjan” (Immersion). These two stories are in actually brews of fiction and reality, which till now creates curiosity among the people from far distance to visit Tripura for once in life. Unfortunately like the maximum historical places of Tripura this place has also lost its charms due to the negligence of Tourism department of Tripura and a single statue of Tagore, which is being placed over there is unable to describe Tagore’s adjacent relation with the Old Royal Palace and its kings.
