AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN):Vehicle owners in Tripura will no longer have to go to the transport office to pay their taxes as they can now do it online using the new e-payment facility which is likely to be launched next month, said an official.

According to additional secretary of  transport department Amit Barman Roy, the e-system will prove beneficial to the vehicle owners as it will spare them the ordeal of waiting in long queues to pay the road tax which is likely to be launched from August 14.

“Besides, the online system will help increase revenue as people who were unable to visit the transport department office due to their busy schedules can now pay their tax and also clear past dues, if any, at the click of the mouse from the comfort of their homes,” Barman Roy said.

The  transport officer added that the facility of online submission of tax would also be made available through  8 district transport office across the state. The transport department are optimistic that the e-payment mode will reduce the number of defaulters and increase revenue.

“Under the new system, people can pay the road tax even if they are not present in their hometowns,” Barman Roy added. The new e – payment  facility through State Bank of India (SBI),  will greatly relieve the people as it would do away with the troublesome long queue for paying tax at the premises at transport offices.
