Panchayat poll: CPI (M) congratulates people for land slide victory

AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): The people of Tripura were congratulated by CPI (M) state committee for landslide victory of Left Front in three – tier panchayat election. Addressing a press meet here at party headquarters in Melarmath area of Agartala on Saturday afternoon, state secretary of CPI(M) Bijan Dhar said the Left Front has captured 65 Gram Panchayats won by by Congress in 2009. He claimed that the people exercised their franchise against corrupt practices of Congress ruled panchayats.The baseless anti – left campaign by the opposition parties and a section of media could influence the voters, instead they voted in favour of peace, stability, development and good governance.

Briefing about the results, CPI (M )spokesperson Gautam Das said the Left Front had captured 115 seats among the 116 seats of 8 Zilla Parishads, polling was held for 114 seats, remaining two seats had been won by CPI(M) candidates uncontested and opposition Congress captured only a lone seat from Kailasahar sub division.   

He  said that  for 419 seats of 35 Panchayat Samities, polling was held for 381 seats. The Left Front candidates had won the 38 seats uncontested, which reduced the total figure of contested seats to 381 and opposition Congress got only 9 seats. The CPI (M) has altogether 409 seats including the uncontested seats won. Recounting in going on in one seat of the Panchayat Samities.

Speaking about gram panchayat CPI(M) spokeperson said  that for 6111 gram panchayat seats for 591 Panchayats, election was conducted for 5129 seats for panchayat across the state, the election has been postponed for two seats for deaths of two candidates and remaining 980 seats of panchayats have been secured by the LF candidates uncontested
