TIWN

Agartala, July 19 (TIWN): In the three-tier Panchayat election, the CPI (M) has ensured their victory in 23 Gram Panchayats out of total 25 under Kumarghat Block. The rest two Gram Panchayats came under the grip of Congress and BJP got only one Gram Panchayat.

In the last Panchayat poll, Congress came to power in total four Gram Panchayats including Fatikroy and Kanchanbari.  Though, the Congress did not get a single seat in Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat and managed one ward in Fatikroy Gram Panchayat in this election, Congress won Paschim Ratagaray and Dudhpur Gram Panchayats.

BJP secured Manauli Gram Panchayat which was one of the CPI (M)'s strongholds. Added to it, BJP got ward number 2 and 3 of Betcherra and Purba Kanchanbari Gram Panchayats, said BJP leader Bhagaban Das.

Out of total 253 seats of Kumarghat Block, the CPI (M) party bagged 204 seats, Congress got 21 seats, BJP got 15 seats and Trinamool Congress got 9 seats.

So far, no untoward incident was occurred in any counting hall of the block, barring few clashes between CPI (M) and Congress.

On being asked, Congress sources said that the CPI (M) workers attacked the Congress workers inside the counting hall which forced the latter to come out of the counting hall. The BJP also raised the same allegation against the CPI (M).

However, Prasenjit Singha - CPI (M) leader denied all the allegations saying that Congress is just trying to hide their defeat.

Asked about the BJP's acquiring of seat, Prasenjit said that the BJP secured few wards of the Gram Panchayats due to the weakness of the party organization. BJP leader Bhagaban Das said that the CPI (M) tried to corner the BJP with all possible ways, but they could not succeed fully.
