AGARTALA, April 27 (TIWN): Eventhough sugar subsidy has not been scrapped by Central Govt yet , but Tripura Govt has already announced a crisis to be existed across ration shops in Tripura from May. CPI-M Ration dealers are going to sit in mass demonstration on Friday 12 PM issuing the might be ‘sugar subsidy’ that may be scrapped by Central Govt. However, as point was raised by opposition BJP that when in 2013 CPI-M party as a part of election memorandum promised about sugar supply at low price to the poor, did the party think that the Central Govt will continue to give subsidy forever? If nothing can be done by the State Govt itself, then for what the Govt is there ? On the other hand an artificial crisis is already hovering in state has resulted in much resentments among the consumers. Earlier, in the month of October, 2016 when state govt hiked sugar price by 6 rupees, it generated roar of protests by the opposition parties.

Tripura left front Govt was charged by Trinamool Mahila Congress in 2016, October, after they placed a deputation before the Food Director of Tripura regarding the sudden hike in sugar price on that time. The sugar price which was hiked from 1st October (2016) reaped huge cash benefits to CPI-M, which was to be continued for next 6 months (April-2017). Sugar price which had become Rs. 26 per kilo with subsidy it would come 23.40 rupees, but without providing the subsidy the state govt is charging Rs. 26 resulting the vogue profit of extra 2.60 rupees to the govt, alleged Trinamool Mahila Congress leader Ajanata Bhattacharjee. As per Finance Minister’s report in total 2647 metric tons sugar are needed for Tripura per month and thus 2647 (metric ton) X Rs. 2.60 stands around Rs, 8 crores after 6 months cash earnings for CPI-M, said Bhattacharjee.

On the other hand Tripura Food Minister Bhanulal Saha calling media in April month said, "Sugar crisis may grip the state soon since the month of May as the Centre most likely is going to stop sugar supply and subsidy". Immediately, with the statement given by Tripura Minister sugar crisis has gripped the state and 90 % ration shops have stopped the sugar supplies saying 'No Sugar' in stock.

Counter attacking Bhanulal Saha, BJP State President Biplab Deb said, "What kind of Govt it is which runs on approximate business ? Central Govt has not said anything like this, but Food Minister announced about the 'might be' crisis, just to create a crisis? In whole country such an incomputable govt would not be found".

Attacking CPI-M's statement Biplab Deb said Centre has not said anything like this, but if Centre oneday stop subsidy why Tripura Govt can not run the state? For what reason then Tripura Govt sitting in the cabinet?"

"In the election manifesto, the left front party in its 25 number page said that it will continue to supply 5 items' in free flow at any cost to its people, including sugar. Thus, question raises, when the promise was done, the left front party was relying upon central funds ?", Deb said.

Opposition BJP also promised that if BJP comes in power it will continue all food supplies seamlessly, without issues of state-central fights.

However, keeping aside all the arguments, presently the main victim is the common men and the sugar crisis has also led many small shop-keepers to illegally increase the sugar price a lot.
