AGARTALA, April 20 (TIWN): Since Wednesday afternoon, Tripura and other NE states witnessed heavy thunderstorm, continuous lightning and incessant rainfall. In Tripura, a major portion of the state, including Dharmanagar, Amarpur and other interior areas are suffering from powercut following the rain, midnight report said. Thunderstorm occurred at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Uttrakhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan WestBengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamilnadu and Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on Wednesday. Temperature in Tripura had downed at 26 degree C following the rain. However, many houses were damaged due to the rain and also paddy fields were highly affected may cause crop damages. The trough from West Uttar Pradesh to east Assam across East Uttar Pradesh & Bihar extending up to 0. 9 kmabove mean sea level with an embedded upper air cyclonic circulation over Assam at 0.9 above mean sea level persists. Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and heavy at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
This may lead to heavy crop damages, tough time in transport as Tripura’s National Highway is now undergoing with double lane project.
Hundreds of farmers in the rural Tripura have already been driven to despair by the seasonal rains and hailstorms which extensively damaged the vital vegetables. The pre-monsoon rain recently has hindered the growth and development of vegetables, Potato , Tomato and watermelon cultivation in the remote location of the state.
Hundreds of small farmers are juggling to survive as unpredictable weather hits their only source of income. Apart from that the Capital City is constantly suffering from waterlogging problem.
