Agartala, July 16 (TIWN): The malaria outbreak continues to remain grim in remote areas as well as various localities of the town leaving the District Chief Medical Officer (CMO) along with other public representatives in dilemma.

Despite of various health camps being organized in city outskirts, the deadly disease could not be brought under control. Thousands of malaria affected patients have been undergoing treatment in altogether 17 hospitals and health sub centres in the entire Dhalai district. The death toll is recorded at 40 till date.

Among the death toll, number of children is the most. District CMO Sanjay Biswas said, “A total of 19 patients died of malaria and the remaining 29 died of anaemia and water-borne disease. Besides organizing health camps in each blocks, village committee areas the health departments staffs is trying to raise awareness among the people in Kok Borok as well as other languages. They suggest the people to drink boiled water, use mosquito net, to make separate dwelling for domestic animals and others”. Despite of the awareness camps, it is of no use.

The remote area people are not paying heed to the issue. Furthermore, a section of tribes are trying superstitious tricks with the false interpretation of getting well through these tricks instead of going to the hospitals.

Dr Biswas said, “Recently, one Barun Kumar Debbarma after diagnosed with malaria parasite was admitted in the hospital. Before getting completely in good health, he returned home and got indulged in superstitious trick. Moreover, he believed himself to be fine after the trick. The question is who will make him understand the reality”?

On the contrary, while mosquito nets are being distributed among the tribes of Sindhukumar Para, the tribes are selling those mosquito nets at Rs 150 to

250. Hence, the epidemic continues to engulf the entire district especially tribes of remote regions.
