AGARTALA, April 17 (TIWN): Corruption tainted Tripura's former DGP K Nagraj, who is likely to end up in prison, was charge sheeted by CBI 10 years back, when he was the IG of Tripura. Nothing was hidden from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar about Nagraj's reality, but again in 2014 Manik Sarkar, who is also the Home Minister of Tripura handpicked Nagraj as the police Chief. However, in 2016, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a move that could affect several high-profile officers, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has expedited cases relating to disproportionate assets and corruption registered against Indian Police Service (IPS) officers that have been pending for over 10 years. But Sarkar took long 1 yr to repulse Nagraj from Tripura.

In 2005, the probe agency had registered a case against the 1983 batch IPS officer of the Manipur-Tripura cadre for allegedly amassing property to the tune of Rs. 1.07 crore, which was disproportionate to his known sources of income. The case was registered by the CBI in 2007 when Mr. Nagraj was posted on Central deputation with the Central Reserve Police Force in Hyderabad. The final verdict has not yet been declared. 

The MHA has appointed the DG, Indo-Tibetan Border Police force (ITBP) to conduct the enquiry against Mr. Nagraj and has asked him to submit the report at the earliest.

On the observations of the Supreme Court,  even though MHA Chief Rajnath Singh told Tripura Govt to get rid of Nagraj, but it was not for the first time, but earlier also CM was suggested by the Union Home Ministry. But question raises, why it took long 1 year to replace DGP K Nagraj for Manik Sarkar?

The earlier DGP Nagraj was also the former IG in Tripura, but the new DGP A K Shukla was also former IG here. However, CM would never chose any outsider all of a sudden due to some hidden fear. It was Nagra's mastery to file documents on crime deduction, loopholes in chit fund investigation, bogus report on reducing crime against women. It was Nagraj, who talked about fine on spot by traffic dept, it was Nagraj who instead of strict rules talked about mutuality and maximum percentage of unregistered cases were recorded in Nagraj's time.

Apart from that either Corrupted official as GSG Ayyangar, S K Panda--- all are close to the CM of Tripura. GSG Ayyangar has occupied Finance, Agriculture, RD all the impt depts, but all the depts are highly corrupted.

But when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had expedited cases relating to disproportionate assets and corruption registered against Indian Police Service (IPS) officers that have been pending for over 10 years & observing the decision may impact the CPM government of Tripura the most, immediately DGP was replaced so that the issue can be kept far from the election days.
