'Naba Barsha' fever grips Bengal, Northeast

AGARTALA, April 14 (TIWN): Festive fever gripped Northeast, West Bengal. One day ahead of Pohela Baishakh, Bengali families are utter busy in shopping, arrangement for the celebration on April-15.

On Friday, as a part of Makar Sankranti, people are enjoy vegetable dishes at their households. However, on Pahela Baishakh all the menu will be centered on Fish and meat items.

It's worthy to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the nation on Bohag Bihu, Poila Boishakh, Vishu and Puthandu.

"Greetings to people across India on the various festivals. May this auspicious day bring joy and prosperity in everyone's lives," Modi tweeted.

"Shubho Nabo Barsho to my Bengali friends. Wishing you all on Poila Boishakh and praying for a wonderful year ahead," he said in another tweet.

He wished people of Assam "on the auspicious occasion of Bohag Bihu".

The Prime Minister also extended New Year greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu.

"Greetings on Puthandu to my Tamil sisters and brothers. May the year be full of happiness, good health and prosperity," he said.

Modi conveyed his wishes to the people of Kerala on their new year festival Vishu.

"On the special occasion of Vishu, I convey my good wishes to the people of Kerala. I pray the coming year brings joy and good health," he tweeted.

Modi extended his "greetings to all Odia people on Maha Vishuba Sankranti". 

Odisha, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam will celebrate their New Year on April 14 and 15. Known as Pana or Vishuba Sankranti, Vishu, Poila Baishakh and Bihu in the respective states, the day will be celebrated by the communities with prayers and events.
