Indo-Bangla border Fruitful conference ends in Chittagong

Chittagong/Agartala, April 14 (TIWN): A two-day joint border conference of Bangladesh-India Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate (DM) level for cluster-6 concluded in the port city at Chittagong,Bangladesh.

DCs, DMs and other concerned officials of six bordering districts of Bangladesh and India took part in the conference at Chittagong Circuit House.

Bangladesh’s bordering districts include Chittagong, Feni, Khagrachhari and Comilla and India’s districts are Gomati and South Tripura.

Chittagong DC Md Shamsul Arefin led Bangladesh side while South Tripura DM and Collector Chandra Kumar Jamatia the Indian side.   

After ending the conference, the representatives talked with TIWN correspondance.

Shamsul Arefin said the conference was fruitful after discussion on different issues between the two countries.

“We reached to consensus on different issues, including those which will require approval from the high ups,” said the DC.

“The both countries will promote the tourism so that the tourists can travel between the countries easily,” he said.


“After implementation of the decisions, people of the two districts of India will be able to arrive by road and visit the Patenga and Cox’s Bazar sea beaches in Bangladesh as they have no sea. We will also be able to go to the country easily,” said the DC.

“We will share the Boishakh, Eid, Puja and other common religious and cultural festivals,” he said.

The bilateral activities, including construction of bridge on Feni river and pillars in different areas will be conducted following the decisions taken in these regards, the DC informed TIWN.

He also hoped relationships between the countries will be strengthened further through such conferences.

Chandra Kumar Jamatia DM South said that they have reached to consensus on different issues which will help strengthen ties between the two countries.
