AGARTALA, April 13 (TIWN): Tripura Food Minister Bhanulal Saha calling media said before 2 days, "Sugar crisis may grip the state soon since the month of May as the Centre most likely is going to stop sugar supply and subsidy". Immediately, with the statement given by Tripura Minister sugar crisis has gripped the state and 90 % ration shops have stopped the sugar supplies saying 'No Sugar' in stock. Reportedly, on Thursday morning also customers had returned from ration shops with empty hands, that created much resentment among the common people ahead of New Year. But in reality, till day, Central Govt has not stopped sugar subsidy for any state, but an artificial crisis has already gripped the state. Calling a press conference on Thursday evening, BJP State President Biplab Deb said, "What kind of Govt it is which runs on approximate business ? Central Govt has not said anything like this, but Food Minister announced about the 'might be' crisis, just to create a crisis? In whole country such an incomputable govt would not be found". On the other hand Tripura Left Front convener Khagen Das said, "The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led central government from this month (April) stopped giving subsidy on sugar being supplied through the PDS".

Attacking CPI-M's statement Biplab Deb said Centre has not said anything like this, but if Centre oneday stop subsidy why Tripura Govt can not run the state? For what reason then Tripura Govt sitting in the cabinet?"

"In the election manifesto, the left front party in its 25 number page said that it will continue to supply 5 items' in free flow at any cost to its people, including sugar. Thus, question raises, when the promise was done, the left front party was relying upon central funds ?", Deb said.

However, with this sugar crisis situation, state Tripura is suffering massively as just after 1 day it's Pohela Baishakh & people are returning from ration shops with bleak faces. Last time, ahead of Durga Puja sugar price was hiked by 6 rupees by the state govt, leading the festive seasons in Tripura as 'crisis seasons'.
