AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): The Agartala Town Hall today offered a unique venue for the students and budding stars from colleges and universities. The Tripurainfoway-Headlines mega quiz began from 9 AM in the morning amidst massive response. The event continued till 8 PM in the evening with a number of audience rounds, special question series through the day.
The quiz, played in pairs, started with a random screening round ending in eight finally selected teams. The game proceeded with seven further rounds through the final round.
The quiz was conducted by former BBC correspondent Subir Bhaumik and Dr. Indranil Bhowmik from the Tripura (Central) University.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the quiz event today by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Panda, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)- Ashutosh Jindal, renowned lawyer- Pijush Kanti Biswas graced the dais as special guests while Managing Director of TIWN- Saumen Sarkar and other dignitaries attended the inaugural session on the day.
Managing Director of Tripurainfoway.com Saumen Sarkar flagged off the event this morning saying that the Mega Quiz was conceptualised as an effort to inculcate the habit of learning.
"Our mega quiz isn't about winning prizes or getting recognition. It's more of an awareness generation initiative among the people", Sarkar said.
He handed over a cheque of Rs. 10,000 to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for the Chief Minister's relief fund.
The quiz contest offers two Lenovo Laptop computers as first prize for the top pair, two desktop computers for the runners-up pair and two Lenovo MobileWinners smartphones as the third prize.
Out of 410 contestants in 205 teams who participated in the screening level of the quiz contest today, 32 teams were selected for the main event. After seven rounds of brainstorming quiz sessions, Rajesh Banik and Dilip Kumar Roy were declared first. The second prize went to Debayan Choudhury and Manoj Kumar Saha.
Swarup Mitra and Joydeep Chakraborty were declared third in the contest.
Tripurainfoway.com Manading Director Saumen Sarkar, Navyata Sarkar handed over the first prize. The second prize was handed over to the winners by Headlines Tripura editor Pranab Sarkar. Transport secretary Kishore Ambuly handed over the third prize.
